A Wildlife Sanctuary in urgent need of funds…

Hi everyone, this is just a quick note to tell you about SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary. They need our help! As you might imagine, the finances needed to feed lions are enormous, and this sanctuary really need your help with funds. Below are all the details (copied from their facebook page), so please let them know if you can help. These lions were saved from terrible circumstances, so let’s see if we can help these majestic cats!

It appears that our troubles with trying to raise sufficient funding to continue to provide a safe sanctuary for our large predators is getting worse. We have managed to arrange for our credit to be extended for another week with great difficulty as we have depleted every single cent we had available to feed the lions and our supplier made it very clear that NO further credit will be extended.
Our appeals for funding has had very little response and hardly any funding came in for our lions and no large charity has responded to our calls for help. We are faced with a very serious dilemma.
In reality I guess the very lives of the animals we have grown to love now depends solely on your generosity and goodwill as without your help we are simply not in a position to to keep them. There is no other way to put it.
We will be forced within days to evaluate our situation and make a decision about the lions future. We simply cannot compromise the rest of our operation and other wildlife in order to keep our lions. Basic economics (as much as we hate to say this) will determine otherwise. So I really would like to ask for your urgent assistance and donations failing which we will have no other option but to shut down our large predator facility. Please do respond asap.
You will find the background of our lions and how they were rescued from canned lion breeding and hunting on our LION RESCUE blog site
ON-LINE DONATIONS can be made with PayPal or PayFast or by means of a direct internet banking transfer into our SANWILD WILDLIFE TRUST Account no 9111221180 with ABSA, Danie Joubert Street, Tzaneen, 0850 South Africa. The branch code is 334349, the swift code ABSAZAJJ, the Iban code ZA632005.

Victorian Garden’s NEW LOOK!

So as you know, Victorian Garden is really one of my favourite brands. Not only is it such a high quality that it is used in many spas, but it is also affordable. I was very excited when they announced that they will be rebranding their packaging and couldn’t wait to see the new look. Jessica sent me a few goodies to check out:

VG New Packaging

I LOVE the new design. It’s so clean and elegant and definitely suits the Victorian Garden brand. The toner bottle is now more slender, so it can fit in your cupboard AND your handbag! I also like the new cream jar. It has now got a broader surface, so the glass jar won’t fall over easily. And because it is shallow, you won’t have trouble getting out the last bits of cream when it’s almost finished. The heart soap is so cute! They will make perfect gifts for Mother’s day (they sell for R12.00).

As for the products themselves, they are great as always. The Rose Toner is excellent and so refreshing. When I spritz it on, I am tempted to spray it on my whole body as it smells like fresh roses! The Neroli and Lemon day Cream is for normal/combination cream. I think it would be great to use this in summer as it reduces oiliness, but in the winter I am sticking to my Cape Aloe & Propolis day Cream!

I will post some more products from their African Indigenous  range (my favourite) next week!

Do you love Alligator Pears? :)

I REALLY, REALLY love avos. They are so rich and yummy, and if finances allowed it, I would eat about 2 a day.

A few interesting things about Avocados:

  • They are also known as alligator pears (what a funky name!)
  • Brazillians mix avocado with ice-cream to make a popular dessert.
  • Filipinos puree avocados with sugar and milk for a dessert drink

If you are not eating avos as much as I do, here is why you should:

  • It contains in excess of 25 essential nutrients, including vitamin A, B, C, E, & K, copper, iron, phosporus, magnesium, and potassium.
  • Avocado is high in fat content, but it is mostly the monounsaturated fat which is a healthy fat variety. (Great for heart health)
  • The lower cholesterol! Avocados are rich in a compound called beta-sitosterol which has been shown to be effective in lowering blood cholesterol levels.
  • The potassium in avocado help regulate your blood pressure levels.
  • They have the highest fibre content of any fruit!

As you may remember, I did a blogpost about the yummy health benefits of dark chocolate. Here is a recipe that combines the two to make a super-healthy (yes, I said HEALTHY!) chocolate mousse.

avocadopudding

Chocolate Avocado Mousse

Ingredients

Serves 6

354ml good quality dark chocolate, chopped

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp chili powder

1 large, ripe Hass avocado, pitted and peeled

3/4 cup light brown sugar

6 egg whites

 Directions

Melt the chocolate with the cinnamon and chili powder in a double boiler over hot water and set aside. Purée the avocado and brown sugar in a food processor until smooth. With the machine running, pour in the chocolate mixture. Using a stand mixer or whisk, beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks. Fold the chocolate mixture into the egg whites. Pour the mousse into 6 small serving bowls or wine glasses and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or covered overnight.

10 Things I Love About Summer

Summer

Each season has its pros and cons. And as summer is busy moving out, and the days get colder, I am reminded by the small things I love about summer. So just to say goodbye to summer (till we see it again in a few months!), here are 10 things I love about SUMMER:

  1. The sun rises early, so it’s easier to start your day an hour or so earlier.
  2. Swimming
  3. Summer style
  4. Braaiing every weekend
  5. The long daylight hours
  6. Thunderstorms
  7. Ice Cream/Watermelon/Ice Cold Drinks
  8. My washing that dries in only two hours!
  9. Getting tanned
  10. Drinking my 2 litres of water is so much easier when it’s hot!

What are you going to miss most about summer?
